We didn't have to leave early this morning we only have about 100 or so miles to drive today. We will be taking the I 75 through Dayton OH to Wapakoneta where we will be staying at the KOA. This is about 50 miles from Eldora Speedway. There was no place closer to stay. Eldora is in the middle of nowhere, among corn fields and cow, chicken and pig farms. Makes for a very smelly drive to the track.
As we drive through Dayton I think this looks like a nice little city. A lot smaller than Cincinnati and I would like to spend some time here. We are finding we really like this area along with the PA area we were in.
Once set up at the KOA we went into town for lunch/dinner. We ate at Bob Evans. They have these restaurants all over this area and I know they have great Mac and Cheese, you can get in the grocery stores here. They have just started serving Boasted Chicken so we tried it. It was the best chicken I have ever eaten. Not to greasy and nice and crisp on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside.
After lunch we have a little time to relax before heading to Eldora. Once we arrive at Eldora we have a hard time finding a place to park, tomorrow night we will have to get here earlier. What a great little track not to big and not to small. We can see the whole track from where we are sitting.
The racing tonight is the World of Outlaws winged sprints. They are good and fast, they are also racing the UMP Dirtcar Modifieds. I was worried it would be a long night, but they have a great track crew that get things done quickly. Donny Schatz and Rico Abreu and my picks to win. I would be happy with either one. I was upset to see Rico have a bad reck he rolled it several times but luckily he walked away to race again. Joey Saldana managed to beat Donny Schatz to the checkered flag. That was OK I like him too. What an exciting night of racing and a nice way to kick off the Four Crowns Champion racing weekend.
We were back to the KOA by 11:30 or maybe a little later. It seemed quicker going home than when we drove down to Eldora. Tomorrow another night of great racing with the USAC Sprints, non-wing, and the USAC Midgets ending with the USAC Silver Crown sprints. These are bigger sprints and I have never seen them race before. Hope it goes as good as tonight did.
