Last day in Austin (11/09)

Today is a little bitter sweet for me, I know in the morning we will be on the last leg of our journey and we will have to say goodbye to our son.

We picked Shannon up after 11 this morning and went and did some birthday/Christmas shopping for him.  His birthday was the end of Oct and we won't be here for Christmas so he gets presents early.
He wants a bass fiddle bow and a new bass fiddle case.  We went to Violins Ect. where they had a big selection of cases but no beginner bows.  So he got a bass case and a bass stand.  He only wants a practice bow because he is not sure he will like using one.  The one's at this store start at $100.

We are now hungry and want to have some good BBQ.  Shannon takes us to Stubs BBQ.  WOW is all I can say, the food here is really good.  The meat just fall off the bones and is very flavorful. He talked a lot about things that happened in the past and his dreams for the future.  We are all a little tired so we take Shannon home and we head back to the RV park.  Later tonight we are all going to Ginny's Little Longhorn for some rock a billy music.  Dale Watson is suppose to be playing there and Shannon really wants us to hear him.  Once we get there we find Dale Watson is not playing tonight but the Rosie Flores band is.  Rosie is an old time rock a billy artist and is so fun to watch.  She is know as Austin's little darling.  The show was over with by 8.

Shannon and Joe

We had a little mishap after the show.  During the show it was announced that if you were parked in the in the sewing machine parking lot next door you need to move your vehicle or it will be towed.  So Joe and Shannon went to move it and had to park over a mile away.  Any way Joe went to get the truck after the show and couldn't find it.  He thought he remembered where he parked it but it wasn't there.  Shannon said he knew where it was at so the two of us went to find Joe and the truck.  We walked right to the truck and no Joe.  He had went a block to far.  We had a good laugh.

I was tough saying goodbye to Shannon.  We have had such a great visit with him.  We are very proud of him because he will be sober for 1 year in December.  He is feeling so much better and enjoying life much more than he did when he was drinking.  He even has gone on several tours and managed to stay sober.  Next year he hopes to stop smoking.  We are both hoping that he an accomplish this.

11/10
Monday morning we are up really really and on the road by 6 am heading for Albuquerque New Mexico.  We have 850 miles to drive in two days.  Once we get to Fort Stockton the wind picks up and blows us all over the road all the way to Anthony Texas where we spend the night.  Anthony is on the Texas/New Mexico border.  Nice RV park the guy who built this went all out.  The sites are all pull through with 3 sewer drains for each site so you don't have to worry about positioning your unit to reach the drain.

11/11
We don't need to be up to early this morning and are very glad because the wind is till blowing.  We take the back route up the I 25 to Albuquerque. We are staying at an RV park on top of nine mile hill just out of town.  My brother Allan and his wife Cathy live here.  This will be the first time to see them since our dad passed away.  Once all set up we went to the grocery store and then just vegged for the rest of the day.  Joe was so tired from battling the wind.
11/12
Today we spent some time at my brothers house just catching up on things.  Joe and I went to lunch then to Camping World hoping to get a new door lock.  We did get one but it is already to cold out to change the locks.  It was 35 degrees by 6 pm.  Burrrrrrrrrrrrr!

11/13
It was 20 degrees when we got up this morning and are water hose is froze.  We didn't think about unhooking it last night.  We are not accustomed to this cold weather.  Thank goodness we have some water in our fresh water tank. This morning we have the hose sitting in our kitchen sink trying to thaw it out.  Quite a sight.  We will be going over to my brothers later today for dinner and to say goodbye. Friday morning we will be heading home to Mesa.  I am really getting to hate saying goodbye.

This will be our last blog for this trip.  This has been the greatest journey and we can't wait to start again in Feb with going to Florida and the Daytona 500.  We want to thank all of you that followed our blog, it was a pleasure sharing our journey with you!

We will arrive in Mesa Friday the 14th and be there until Dec 29th.  We will be staying at Usery Mt Park for a week in space 37 then on Friday the 21st we will move to the Tower Point RV park in Mesa for the rest of the time we are in Mesa.  The 29th we will head back to Yuma.

We hope to see all are friends on the 22nd at Tracy's house for a glad to be back get together.  See everyone then.
