Glendale and the Blues in KY (09/18)

Yea!!!!  This morning is beautiful, the sun is shining and all is well with the world!!!!!  What to do on this beautiful day.  We decided to go explore a little more of Glendale after my chiropractor apt.  My back has been doing so good until this week, hopefully this will get me going again.

We have lunch at a bakery, coffee/sandwich shop in the historic downtown square.
This great antique bicycle planter sits in front of the cafe, I can just see it when they have the summer flower pots sitting on it.  Along with the baking squirrel .  They have these big squirrels everywhere.
Here we have the baking squirrel, then the one in front of the jewelry store and last but not least the fireman squirrel.  There were many more but we didn't take pictures of them all.

After lunch we walked around and took some pictures of the beautiful houses they have here.  I am in love with this town.  I found a house that is big enough to fit my whole family, we could each have our own floor.

The first house is the big one I mentioned.  It has 4 stories.  The residents of these houses we were told are old money, doctors and lawyers.  Must be nice.  There is a lot of these really big estates here.

Back at the park we kind of veg for a while as we are going across the Ohio River to Kentucky tonight for a blues jam.  It starts at 7:30 and we got there a little before.  The place the jam was at is called The Southgate House, it is a beautiful old church with the stained glass windows still intact. It is in Newport KY.  It has two different rooms for music the smaller of which is the smoking area and then the bigger one is called the Sanctuary, this is where the beautiful stained glass windows were.  The first blues guy we heard was Jimmy D Rogers with his boogie woogie piano.  He was really good.  Once he was done we waited for the next band but they didn't seem to be in any hurry to play so we went over to the Sanctuary to listen to the big horn band that was playing there.  They were good but the sound man had the sound so loud it wasn't enjoyable.  The next band had two sax players and a key board player along with drums, guitar and bass and two back up singers.  They were called Leroy Ellington Blues Band.  They were alright, the keyboard player had a great voice they should of let her do all the singing.  We left after a couple of ear splinting songs.  We were really disappointed, we were ready for some good blues and instead got R & B, not quite the same.

Tomorrow we heard for Eldora Speedway and the sprint car races.
