Graceland (10/24)

We have tickets to tour Graceland.  This is something I never thought I would do and am a little excited.  We have tickets for the 12 pm tour but a big tour came in so we didn't get our tour until 1pm.  They give every on an I Pad and head set and you load on buses and drive across the street to Graceland.  As you take the self guided tour the I Pad talks to you and explains what you are looking at.  My first impression was "I thought it would be bigger and grander".  Graceland is not the huge mansion I thought it would be.  I guess for Elvis' time it was big but like all things in the 60's it is a lot of small rooms. I was surprised at how outdated it looked. They don't let you tour upstairs because he never let anyone up there but family.

The bedroom shown was where his parents slept.

This is the Kitchen and the billiard room .  It is all done in fabric walls ceiling, everything.

This room was called the jungle room.

Once through the house we tour the out buildings, the offices, stables and trophy room.  The barn is a big white building and we are able to see too of the horses that are kept there.  I never knew that Elvis was a big horse person.

The trophy room is what impressed me most, I enjoyed looking at all the gold records and then over to the racquetball court and down to the room that had some of the last outfits her wore while           preforming.

Out back is  where Elvis and his mom and dad are buried.  They were moved from their original burial place to keep them safe from his fans.

Then is back on the bus and back across the street where we go through his automobile collection and see his and Lisa Marie's planes.

All in all I am glad we did the tour but I am not sure I would do it again. Back home we have dinner and Joe returns to Beale street.
