Florence AL to Memphis TN (10/23)

Today we travel to Memphis TN.  I have never been here and am looking to forward to seeing this historic area.  It is a pleasant drive around 200 miles. The unique thing is we leave AL and go to TN, MS and then AR. This is the first time we have touched 4 states in one day.  We are actually staying in W Memphis which is in AR.

The bridge over the Mississippi River is big but not as long as I thought it would be.  We are staying at the Tom Sawyer RV park just across the bridge.  The park is right on the Mississippi River.  We have a pull site with the back of the fifth wheel facing the river.  What a beautiful view from the side windows and the back window.  Just as we are setting up a big barge comes by.  This is a regular occurrence and they come by about every 15 to 20 minutes all day and all night.

The pic on the left is the side window and the one on the right is from our back window.

The pic below is the 1st barge that came by.  Can you see the tent in the pic to the right?  What a great place to camp.

This barge is one of the small ones.  We have seen them 8 barges long and 5 or 6 wide.  That is a lot for the tug boats to push up river.  They are slow and cumbersome coming up river and fast going down river.  They are fascinating to watch.  Some times there are several coming up or down the river at the same time.  Now if I could just see a paddle boat go by!

The weather is great and we should have a very nice week here.  It is suppose to be in the 80's this week, we will feel like we are back in AZ.
Joe went into Memphis to check our Beale St where all the music is.  The barge's are so loud at night that I have to use ear plugs to sleep.

Tomorrow we are going to tour Graceland home of Elvis Presley.
