WEST VIRGINIA

                         SPRINGFIELD , WEST VIRGINIA
                                                          Wednesday May 13, 2015

Travel here to visit my brother Jim and his wife Pam to check out the progress on his dream, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home he is building.  Years ago he bought 100 acres of wooded property in this remote section of West Virginia to build this house when he retired.  Shows just how different we are as brothers, he retires to build a house and settle down while I retire to buy a travel trailer and roam around!

CHESAPEAKE & OHIO CANAL NATL. HISTORIC PARK
                                                           Thursday  May 14, 2015

Day trip to this beautiful and historic area which straddles West Virginia and Maryland along the Potomac River.  Walk along the canal channel locks and marvel at the construction & engineering efforts put into this project which operated from 1831 until 1924.

Next stop is the PAW PAW TUNNEL which took 14 years to build just to cut 6 miles of treacherous river waters off the trip to the Chesapeake Bay.  We walk the 3/4 mile long mule path used to pull the boats through this tunnel.

I return via the 2 mile mountain trail which runs over the top for a change of scenery and to warm up from the 50 degree temps inside the tunnel.  It is early spring here and I walk through a half dozen beautiful black gopher snakes fresh out of hibernation.
