Grays Harbor (07/05)

Saturday we opted to take a road trip into Shelton to see what kind of town it is. It is a lumber town and has been around for a long time and the buildings show it.  We did have a nice lunch at the Sisters Restaurant and then went to their farmers market.  Not much in the way for produce but a lot nice home made things.  I did buy a lovely smelling lavender candle and a lotion stick made with bees wax.  Joe used it on the back of his hands and was amazing watching his very dry skin disappear and no greasy feeling. This morning they still looked really good.  Hope it continues helping his hands.  We tried to take the 101 back to the Little Creek Casino and almost made it before we were stopped by an accident that had traffic backed up for quite a ways.  We turned and went back the way we came to get the 101 and home.

My nephew, Chris and his girlfriend, stepson and my sister in law Linda, brought their trailer down to Elma.  They have a spot there at the Travel Inn Resort.  This is where Grays Harbor race track is located, not far from the park they are staying in.  They called about 3 and we joined them about 4:30.  The park was having a BBQ, $6 a plate.  The food was pretty good and we enjoyed our self's before heading to the races about    6 pm.
The line to get into the races was pretty long and still growing.  Nice track, they were running 5 divisions including winged sprints and midgets.  Kim, Chris' girlfriend, had an Uncle and Cousin racing tonight. We were happy to hear they were not going to have heat races.  Just qualifiers and mains.  Fast racing, a few races had to many yellows dragging the show out some, but all in all we all enjoyed the races.

After the races were over they had a big fireworks show.  I really enjoyed it since we didn't go to any on the 4th (my decision not to go on the 4th).  Chris's stepson and his girlfriends son seemed to enjoy the fireworks anyway.  Noah wasn't sure about the races, he thought they were good some of the time and boring others.  Linda, Chris, Noah, Joe and I went to the pits after the fire works to let traffic clear out.  The parking lot was a mess with everyone leaving at once.

It was a long drive back home. Finally in bed about 12:30, but as usual couldn't sleep :0(

It was nice to be able to spend some more time with family that I haven't seen in more than 10 years.  Hopefully we will get back here someday, or they will be able to come visit us.
